Stephen Colbert’s Election Night Showtime Special To Repeat On Friday’s ‘Late Show’

For the millions of Americans who are expected to duck and cover on Election Night, CBS said today that it will repeat Stephen Colbert’s special Showtime Election Night coverage as Friday’s Late Show next week.
On November 8, while CBS is covering the historic results with its news division, its late-night host will be on Showtime anchoring Stephen Colbert’s Live Election Night: Democracy’s Series Finale: Who’s Going to Clean Up This Sh*t? Colbert’s regular late-night gig, like those of his broadcast competitors, will be pre-empted that night.
Presumably, CBS will have to tidy up the telecast a bit, what with premium cabler Showtime boasting that Colbert has the freedom to say things news outlets cannot, such as directly quoting a candidate. Plugging the Showtime special on Late Show, Colbert has joked that viewers should come for the Election Night results, stay for the full frontal nudity. Anyway, it helps that Election Night special is produced by the same team behind The Late Show, including EPs Colbert, Chris Licht, Tom Purcell and Jon Stewart.
