Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions Gets Rights To ‘Cover Versions’


EXCLUSIVE: Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions has just picked up worldwide rights to the murder mystery feature Cover Versions from Lakeshore Entertainment’s Off the Dock. Written and directed by Todd Berger, the film, which stars Katie Cassidy, Drake Bell, Austin Swift, Jerry Trainor and Debby Ryan, is about four band members who tell varying accounts of a night of sex, drugs, and murder before their first big show at a popular music festival. The film was produced by Marc Reid and Mark Korshak. The film just wrapped principal photography.

Off The Dock’s most recent production, Internet Famous, landed at the top of the iTunes charts before moving to worldwide distribution on Netflix. Berger previously wrote and directed It’s a Disaster distributed by Oscilliscope Pictures. He also wrote the upcoming STX film The Happytime Murders.

On the acting side, Cassidy is known for her starring role on the CW’s Arrow; Bell recently appeared on the Fox series Grandfathered; Swift had his feature film debut working with Pierce Brosnan in the thriller I.T. and recently wrapped Live By Night for Warner Bros. and Ben Affleck; Trainor can currently be seen on CMT’s Still the King, and Ryan is currently in production on New Line Cinema’s Life of the Party.
