‘Hounds Of Love’ Helmer Ben Young Set To Direct ‘Extinction’

Venice Film Festival

EXCLUSIVE: Ben Young has been set to direct Extinction, the sci-fi thriller/drama that has James McAvoy circling for Good Universe and Mandeville Films. It is a big step up for Young, whose creepy kidnap tale Hounds Of Love made a big stir at its premiere at Venice (where UTA signed him) and has gotten him compared to vaunted names like David Lynch and Justin Kurzel.

Extinction is a bigger canvas, and follows a man haunted by nightmares in which his wife is assaulted, and who becomes a hero when Earth is invaded by an army bent on destruction. McAvoy is being courted to play a father and chief mechanic at a factory who realizes those invading might not be what he expected.

David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman are producing. Latest draft of the script is by Brad Caleb Kane, with Eric Heisserer and Spenser Cohen doing earlier drafts. UTA and Thruline rep Young.
