With months to go before the series premiere, HBO has dropped the first teaser for Big Little Lies, the upcoming limited series created by David E. Kelley and directed by Jean-Marc Vallée (Dallas Buyer’s Club). Based on the best-selling novel by Liane Moriarty, the series stars Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, and Shailene Woodley as a trio of women who become close friends as the complicated and somewhat dangerous challenges of their personal lives converge. Get a glimpse of what that means in the teaser above, set to The Temptation’s version of “Papa Was A Rollin’ Stone” – which, by the way, is a big hint to the plot.
Also starring Laura Dern, Alexander Skarsgård, Adam Scott, James Tupper, and Zoë Kravitz, the seven-episode series is set to premiere TBA on HBO in 2017. (It’s probably a very good guess that Big Little Lies will end up filling the slot on the HBO schedule left open by the delay in filming of the seventh season of Game of Thrones to allow for colder, more wintery conditions.)
Executive produced by David E. Kelley along with Reese Witherspoon, Bruna Papandrea, Nicole Kidman, Per Saari, Jean-Marc Vallee, and Nathan Ross, Kelley also wrote the pilot episode.
