FX Networks’ Kate Lambert Upped To SVP, Will Lead Push In Animated Programming

FX Networks’ plan for ramp-up of original animated programming, revealed at TCA, is coming into focus. VP series development Kate Lambert has been upped to SVP, Series Development and Animation and tasked with leading the charge in the new initiative. She will oversee the development of animated original series and short-form animated programs for FX and FXX, with a focus on FXX. Lambert will report to Eric Schrier and Nick Grad, Presidents of Original Programming for FX Networks and FX Productions. She also will continue to develop live-action series for FX and FXX.

“From Archer to Atlanta, Kate has done an extraordinary job of developing some of FX’s signature shows and we are thrilled she will be taking an even greater role in guiding the networks’ programming,” said Schrier and Grad.

FX/FXX currently has one animated pilot in the works, a cop show from Louis C.K. and Albert Brooks, that is eyed for FXX. More animated development is certain to follow quickly, shepherded by Lambert.

Lambert developed and oversees FX’s signature animated series Archer, which just won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Animated Program. She was involved in the development of the pilots for such series as The Americans, Sons of Anarchy, The Strain, Justified, American Horror Story, The League, Wilfred and Louie. Most recently, Lambert was instrumental in the development and production of Atlanta, the new breakout FX comedy series created by and starring Donald Glover.

At TCA in August, FX Networks CEO John Landgraf unveiled a major animation push for the comedy-centric FXX, home of the company’s flagship animated original series Archer, The Simpsons repeats as well as the Animation Domination High-Def  block.

“We are really happy with FXX, it’s growing, particularly in the younger end of the spectrum,” Landgraf said. “As freestanding studio, ADHD shut down, but you will see FXX going really aggressively in animation, and short-form animation,” he told Deadline at the time.

Part of the rationale for the push — animated comedies attract the younger viewers that FXX is after.
