Element Pictures Taps Rory Gilmartin As In-House Producer

EXCLUSIVE: Andrew Lowe and Ed Guiney’s Element Pictures has hired former Irish Film Board project manager Rory Gilmartin as an in-house producer. Based in Dublin, he joins the company with immediate effect. In the new role, he will be responsible for building on Element’s track record for developing and producing ambitious feature films by Irish writing and directing talent for the local and international market.

Gilmartin has worked with Lowe and Guiney’s company a number of times before while at the IFB. He oversaw the development and production of a wide range of films including Element’s The Lobster, and current Irish box office hit A Date for Mad Mary in addition to films from other banners such as  Brooklyn, Viva, 66 Days and The Young Offenders.

Prior to IFB, he headed up production and development activities for UK-based Brilliant Films, which worked closely with London-based talent agency Independent Talent.

“We’re very excited to welcome Rory to Element and look forward to building our slate with him,” said Guiney and Lowe in a statement. “His extensive knowledge of the industry and his talent relationships are a great fit for Element and his arrival will augment the capacity of our brilliant development and production team.”

Gilmartin added: “I’m delighted to be joining Ed and Andrew at Element in such exciting times for the company. It’s been an incredible period for Irish film as a whole on the local and global stage and Element have been at the very center of this. I’m excited to be joining the team to now help build further on their success.”

Element has been on a roll as of late. The Dublin and London-based banner is coming off of the back of a strong 2015 thanks to the critical success and solid box office performance of Yorgos LanthimosThe Lobster as well as Lenny Abrahamson’s Oscar-winning title Room. It is currently filming Lanthimos’ new project, The Killing of a Sacred Deer, starring Colin Farrell and Nicole Kidman and also has The Favourite in the works, another Lanthimos project with Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz. The company is also producing Disobedience, based on the novel by Naomi Alderman, starring Rachel McAdams and Rachel Weisz.
