Ben Affleck’s ‘Live By Night’ Gets Limited Bow On Christmas For Oscar Consideration

Live By Night, the period crime drama from Ben Affleck will get a limited release from Warner Bros. on Christmas Day, clearly for Oscar consideration. The film will continue in wide release on Jan. 13, 2017. The film, which was written, directed and co-produced by Affleck is based on the novel of  the same name by Dennis Lehane and stars Affleck, Elle Fanning, Brendan Gleeson, Chris Messina, Sienna Miller, Zoe Saldana and Chris Cooper. Warner Bros. and Affleck have had a great track record for Oscar, having won Best Picture in 2013 for Argo.

The movie is being put into a spot that is crazy crowded with a total of 13 pictures being released on that holiday, some in limited release, others going wide. Many of those are also Oscar contenders. Those include Denzel Washington’s Fences, the Boston boming picture Patriots Day, Passengers which stars Jennifer Lawrence, Chris Pratt and Michael Sheen, Gold (Matthew McConaughey and Bryce Dallas Howard), Assassin’s Creed (Marion Cotillard, Michael Fassbender) and Illumination/Universal’s animated musical Sing.
