Male Comedy From Dan Sterling, Phil Lord & Chris Miller Set At ABC As Put Pilot

ABC has nabbed The Escape, a single-camera family comedy about three generations of men executive produced by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, with a put pilot commitment.

Written by Dan Sterling, The Escape centers on a stressed-out urban professional who uproots himself and his troubled 19-year-old son to move to rural Idaho to live with his father, a retired surgeon with the ruggedness of Indiana Jones.

Sterling executive produces with Lord Miller’s Lord and Miller and Seth Cohen. 20th Century Fox TV, where Lord Miller and Sterling are under overall deals, is the studio.

The Escape reunites Last Man On Earth executive producers Lord and Miller with Sterling, who served as showrunner on the the Fox/20th comedy. Two seasons ago, the trio teamed for a multi-camera comedy penned by Sterling, which landed a put pilot commitment at CBS.

Sterling, repped by UTA and attorney Robert Offer, served as an executive producer on the final season of NBC’s long-running comedy The Office. He also co-created/executive produced Sarah Silverman’s NBC comedy pilot and served as a consulting producer on the HBO comedy series Girls. On the feature side, he co-wrote the controversial Sony comedy The Interview.

In addition to Last Man On Earth, Lord and Miller executive produce two new Fox/20th TV comedy series this season, Son Of Zorn and Making History. In features, The Lego Movie writer-directors are writing and producing the upcoming sequel. They are repped by UTA.
