NBC Buys Two Comedies Produced By Seth Meyers & Broadway Video

NBC has put in development two single-camera comedies from Seth Meyers, Lorne Michael’s Broadway Video and Universal TV. Both are written by writers from Broadway Video-produced NBC late-night shows.

AP Bio, written and executive produced by Saturday Night Live’s Michael Patrick O’Brien, focuses on a former philosophy professor who takes a job teaching AP biology and uses his students to get back at the people in his life who have wronged him. Meyers, Mike Shoemaker and Andrew Singer executive produce.

The project reunites Meyers and O’Brien from their days together on SNL. O’Brien has been a writer on the sketch comedy series since 2009 and did a season-long stint as a featured player before returning to writing on the show.

The second comedy, an untitled project written and co-executive produced by Late Night With Seth Meyers scribe Amber Ruffin, centers on a has-been sibling singing group from the ’80s, who now make ends meet by doing what no musician wants to do – writing jingles and performing their old hits at parties. Meyers executive produces with Shoemaker and Singer.
