EXCLUSIVE: Indonesian action thriller Headshot, starring martial artist Iko Uwais, has sold to multiple global territories following its world premiere last week at the Toronto Film Festival.

XYZ Films and Vertical Entertainment are co-releasing the film theatrically in North America and globally on VOD platforms, with Screenplay Infinite Film and partner SCM handling Indonesian distribution and Nikkatsu handling Japan and the rest of Asia. Additional companies partnering on the day-and-date release: UK (Arrow Films), Germany/Italy (Koch Media), Australia/New Zealand (Vendetta Films), France (AB Groupe), Scandinavia (Star Media Entertainment) and Russia/CIS and The Baltics (Cinema Prestige).

Headshot, which premiered in the Midnight Madness section of TIFF, focuses on amnesiac (Uwais) who, Bourne Identity-style, washes ashore with a serious and mysterious head injury. Shortly after being nursed back to health by a young doctor (Chelsea Islan), his past comes to haunt him and their lives collide with a gang of dangerous criminals led by an enigmatic crime lord. Julie Estelle and Sunny Pang also star.

Timo Tjahjanto and Kimo Stamboel (also known as the Mo Brothers) direct the film from a script by Tjahjanto. Mike Wiluan, Sukhdev Singh, Wicky V. Olindo and Shinjiro Nishimura produce. Executive producers are Sutanto Hartono, Haruhiko Miyano and Kenji Ishibashi. The film is financed by Screenplay Infinite Film, Surya Citra Media, Amuse Entertainment Singapore and Nikkatsu Corporation Japan.

Uwais is best known for his starring role in hit Indonesian action titles The Raid and The Raid 2 (also produced and sold by XYZ Films) and has had roles in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Peter Berg’s Mile 22.

XYZ handles international sales on the title and is currently producing and handling sales for a number of films including Sweet Virginia starring Imogen Poots, Jon Bernthal and Christopher Abbott.
