Australian actor Jordan Rodrigues has joined the cast of Greta Gerwig’s directorial debut Lady Bird starring Saoirse Ronan. Loosely based on Gerwig’s high school experience, the film follows a school senior (Ronan) spending her last year at home in Sacramento while trying to figure out how to get out of the city. Rodrigues will play Miguel, her adopted older brother who is destined for better things and helps his sister on her journey. Scott Rudin, Eli Bush and Evelyn O’Neill are producing. Rodrigues recently wrapped Dance Academy: The Movie, based on the Australian TV series, and also appeared in Freeform’s The Fosters. He is repped by Primary Wave and Stephen Harmon at the X Division in Australia.

Actress and singer Cailee Spaeny has come aboard Legendary’s Pacific Rim 2, starring John Boyega and Scott Eastwood. Steven S. DeKnight is directing the sequel to the 2013 sci-fi pic that starred Idris Elba and Charlie Hunnam. Not much has been said about the film’s plot other then Boyega will be playing the son of Elba’s character. The film will bow in theaters February 23, 2018. Newcomer Spaeny is mostly known for her work as a pop singer but appeared in the indie film Counting To 1,000.
