NBCUniversal, AT&T Renew Long-Term Output Deal

NBCUniversal’s channels will stay on DirecTV and U-verse for the long-term future after the media giant and AT&T agreed to extend their distribution deal. Customers of the satcaster and broadband-based TV service will continue to have access to NBCU broadcast and cable fare live and on-demand via linear television, online and TV Everywhere apps.

The deal includes AT&T’s new streaming services DirecTV Now and DirecTV Preview, which are slated to launch in the fourth quarter. The pact also enhances DirecTV’s 4K UHD programming initiative by allowing DirecTV to select major sporting events in 4K.

“AT&T is an important distributor, and we are pleased they recognize the value of NBCUniversal’s leading portfolio of networks and will continue offering our unmatched lineup of entertainment, sports, news and Hispanic content,” said Matt Bond, Chairman of NBCUniversal Content Distribution. “We are committed to growing our audiences, and we welcome the opportunity to offer our networks on DirecTV Now.”

Said Dan York, chief content officer at AT&T: “We’re pleased to extend our relationship with NBCU with this milestone agreement, which delivers their content across all of our platforms and products. The NBCU family of networks will be available to AT&T customers for years to come and will also enhance our DirecTV Now streaming services and provide more great 4K Ultra High Definition sports content.”
