‘The Journey Is The Destination’: The Fast Times & Life Of Photojournalist-Activist Dan Eldon – Toronto Clip

EXCLUSIVE: Screening today at the Toronto International Film Festival is Bronwen Hughes’ The Journey Is the Destination from Voltage which is based on the first of three journals by English- photojournalist African activist Dan Eldon who was stoned to death with three of his colleagues by an angry mob in Mogadishu.  Raised in Nairobi, by the time he was a teenager, Eldon was organizing a daredevil supply run to Mozambican refugees. Eldon opted to skip high school to cover such events as the end of apartheid in South Africa and the violence and famine in Somalia. This sequence from The Journey is the Destination is a turning point int he film.  Eldon has brought together a group of friends from all over the world to form S.T.A. — Student Transport Aid.  They have raised money, and traveled across five countries to hand-deliver the much-needed aid to the refugee camps of Mozambique.  It’s been a life-changing experience for all of them, but as they head home, Dan realizes this represents a beginning, not an end.  From here, Eldon’s journey to change the world truly begins.
