Emmys: Deadline’s Pete Hammond Vs. Gold Derby’s Tom O’Neil On Best Actress Drama Race: Big Upset In Store?

Television Academy

With the Emmy ceremonies just days away (the Creative Arts handouts begin Saturday), it is time for yet another smackdown between me and Gold Derby’s Tom O’Neil as we take on the Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series category. The lineup is very similar to what the category offered last year. In fact, only Keri Russell of The Americans is a newcomer to this contest, and that is a very good thing since she has been wrongly overlooked for three seasons before finally cracking the nomination code here.

Otherwise it is reigning champ Viola Davis of How to Get Away With Murder taking on rivals she defeated last year including Empire’s Taraji P. Henson, Tatiana Maslany of Orphan Black, two-time past winner for Homeland Claire Danes and Robin Wright of House Of Cards. Can Russell actually walk in for the first time and beat them all? O’Neil and I take on the race and come up with our usual disagreements. To watch, just click on the video link above.
