‘The Walking Dead’ Teases Daryl Dixon Death In Season 7 Clip; Norman Reedus Stays Mum

The Walking Dead Season 6 Finale

Is Daryl Dixon going to be the one to die from Negan’s barbed wire-wrapped bat in the Season 7 opener of The Walking Dead? It certainly doesn’t look good for the Norman Reedus-played fan favorite from a clip played last night on a preview of the next run of the AMC zombie apocalypse blockbuster. Of course, this being the deeply secretive TWD, it’s still all a nudge, nudge, wink, wink until the new season starts in October. While reposting some stories on the teaser, the social media savvy Reedus today made no comment online on the speculation – instead, he posted a bevy of fan art.

The TWD S7 teaser in question shows the Austin Amelio-portrayed Dwight wearing Daryl’s vest and riding his motorcycle through a zombie roadblock of sorts. One of Negan’s henchmen, Dwight is among those watching at the end of Season 6 when the Jeffrey Dean Morgan played villain prepares to kill Reedus’ Dixon or one of the other Survivors.

Besides Dixon, those in jeopardy included Andrew Lincoln’s Rick Grimes, Steven Yuen’s Glenn Rhee, Danai Gurira’s Michonne, Michael Cudlitz’s Abraham Ford, Sonequa Martin-Green’s Sasha Williams, Chandler Rigg’s Carl Grimes, Christian Serratos’ Rosita Espinosa, Ross Marquand’s Aaron and Josh McDermitt’s Eugene Porter. From its first season TWD has always had a high body count and EPs and stars like Lincoln  have insisted that it will be revealed in the S7 debut who Negan killed.

While the Glenn character is killed by Negan in the Robert Kirkman created comics on which the series is based, it should be noted both Reedus and Yuen were seen in Georgia and on-set of TWD in recent months as Season 7 was being filmed. It should also be noted that the TV show frequently deviates from the comic series or creates new characters, like Dixon, and storylines.

In a message read-out on the TWD S7 preview special last night, EP Scott M Gimple offered no specifics but plenty for fans to chew on of what is to come. “You know the beginning, and it’s almost here, so enjoy your summer because the beginning is someone’s end,” the showrunner said in writing. “But it is a beginning. What happens in episode one will shatter the lives of those who survive and will rend the narrative into different trajectories in which we will see our characters in completely new situations, torn from the pages of the comic and remixed in The Walking Dead remixinator 5000.”

The top-rated series on TV among adults 18-49, The Walking Dead is back for its seventh season on October 23.
