‘Ray Donovan’ Renewed For Season 5 On Showtime

The Donovans’ saga is hardly over. Showtime said today that its gritty drama Ray Donovan has been renewed for a 12-episode fifth season. David Nevins, the premium cabler’s president and CEO, made the announcement at TCA today.

Liev Schreiber last month scored his second consecutive Emmy nom for playing the title role, a Boston-bred fixer who makes bad stuff go away for his rich, high-profile L.A. clients. Now if only he could fix his family, which includes his wife Abby (Paula Malcomson), nefarious ex-con dad Mickey (Jon Voight), brothers Terry (Eddie Marsan) and Bunchy (Dash Mihok), half brother Daryll (Pooch Hall), daughter Bridget (Kerris Dorsey) and son Conor (Devon Bagby).

Ray Donovan is up for four Emmys next month, with acting noms for Schreiber, Voight and guest star Hank Azaria and one for director David Hollander. Production on Season 5 will begin in 2017.

Meanwhile, the series is about halfway through its Season 4 run, with guest stars including Lisa Bonet, Stacy Keach, Diane Ladd, Dabney Coleman, Embeth Davidtz, Ted Levine, Gabriel Mann, Ismael Cruz Cordova, Chris Coppola and Billy Lush.

Here’s Showtime’s synopsis of the current season: Ray’s second chance at redemption is tested when he meets professional boxer Hector Campos (Cruz Cordova) and his volatile sister Marisol (Bonet), who harbor a dangerous secret. Wealthy art dealer Sonia Kovitzky (Davidtz) draws Ray further into her Russian mob operation. Meanwhile, Mickey, whose Nevada scam went sideways, decides to turn himself in for the Minassian shootout in order to protect Ray. Bunchy comes to terms with his new wife Teresa’s (Alyssa Diaz) postpartum depression after having their baby girl and relies on Abby’s help. When Hector and Damon (Dominique Columbus) become fixtures at his Fite Club, Terry sees renewed interest in the gym, while Daryll becomes a more integral part of the family when Ray enlists him to handle a job. Abby receives shocking medical news that leaves her questioning her role as a wife and mother. A newly independent Bridget provides comfort and support during this tumultuous time as Conor begins to assert his autonomy with disastrous results.

Ray Donovan was created by Ann Biderman and is executive produced by David Hollander, Mark Gordon, Bryan Zuriff and Lou Fusaro.
