Universal Pictures Picks Up ‘Bodyguards’ Pitch For Bluegrass Films

EXCLUSIVE: Universal Pictures has pre-emptively purchased Laura Solon’s pitch Bodyguards for Scott Stuber and Dylan Clark’s Bluegrass Films. The storyline is being kept under wraps, but it is said to be a female-driven action-comedy. Solon and Bluegrass have worked together on numerous projects. She currently is rewriting Bluegrass’ romantic comedy Let It Snow, which is based on the anthology of three intersecting short stories by YA novelists John Green, Maureen Johnson and
Lauren Myracle.

She also was one of the main writers on Bluegrass’ comedy Office Christmas Party, which Paramount and Amblin are releasing in December. That stars Jason Bateman, Jennifer Aniston, Kate McKinnon, and TJ Miller. The relationship between Solon and Bluegrass began last year when she set up her original spec script Work It, a comedy about two women from the same high school — one who has arrived at a corporation, the other who is trying to climb the corporate ladder when the latter accuses the corporation of gender inequality.

The quality of her writing has led Bluegrass to make Solon their go-to comedy scribe. She burst onto the scene when she first adapted In Her Shoes for Working Title.

Bluegrass exec Beau Bauman will run point on the newly pitched project for Stuber, Kristin Lowe will oversee for Universal.

Solon is repped by the Gersh Agency, Independent (UK agency) and attorneys Jackoway Tyerman.
