Associated Press

When asked at today’s TCA summer tour about how he opted out of the final season and episode of CommunityDonald Glover, who was here tubthumping the upcoming FX dramedy series Atlantawhich he created, said: “I just like endings. I think everything should have death clauses in them like humans have death clauses. Like, one day, Trump is gonna die. That’s guaranteed.

“It’s important that things end,” he continued, “it forces events to progress. … It wasn’t like I wanted to run away from it.”

Atlanta centers on Earnest “Earn” Marks (Glover), a loner who returns to the Georgia city after a failed attempt to realize his artistic aspirations. Upon his arrival, he discovers his cousin has become Atlanta’s hottest new rap act.

EP and director Hiro Murai said that on Atlanta, “we can talk about the hard jokes. We can make our jokes. People can get shot and die and you care about these characters. They’re co-existing.”

Glover, an Atlanta native who also writes on the show, said that his hometown is an ideal place to set a series. “There’s an active dialogue of how things should be,” he said. “The dynamics of the economy play out really well. It informs for a cool environment.”

Said star Brian Tyree Henry, who also is from Atlanta: “What’s so special about the city is that it’s always constantly growing and changing. Black people run Atlanta. It’s our city. Our little hub allows people to come in and expand what we have. I just love that. The language of Atlanta is more than how we talk and dress, it’s just so familiar and familial.”
