Bill Maher Mulling Hillary Clinton $1M Donation If She’ll Come On HBO’s ‘Real Time’

The host of Real Time With Bill Maher insisted to Julian Assange last week that he didn’t donate $1 million to Hillary Clinton as the Wikileaks editor-in-chief alleged – but he might. Today, reps for Maher tell Deadline that the comedian may actually write such a deep-pocket check if the former Secretary of State appears on his HBO show in the next few months.

“He did say he would consider giving a $1 million dollar donation to her Super Pac should she come on Real Time prior to the election,” a Maher spokesperson said Monday as the host and his show are taking a few weeks off. That’s a departure from what Maher said on August 5 when he told Assange and viewers that “I can’t give a million dollars anytime somebody runs for president” after the Wikileaks chief pressed the HBO host on whether he would actually donate to Clinton in 2016 like he did to President Barack Obama’s 2012 reelection campaign.

Appearing via satellite from the his 4-year asylum home in the Ecuadoran embassy in London, Assange sought to snare Maher on cable with a very specific item from the hacked DNC emails that Wikileaks released last month just before the Dems HRC-fest in Philadelphia.

“Just before I came in here, we thought we’d do a little search in our files and I do notice that a William Maher gave a Clinton-affiliated entity $1 million,” Assange said on Real Time on Friday. “Now, it’s a William Maher that’s in L.A. where the money came from. Perhaps you’d like to comment – is that you?” The HBO host called Bill Maher said it wasn’t him – he asserts the same today through his reps.

A popular pundit stop for many a talking head, retired pol and Hollywood’s politically inclined, Maher has been trying in earnest this year to get President Obama on the show. Even with his 60th birthday as a plea bargaining chip and an online petition as a hopeful magnet to the social media savvy White House, Maher was turned down by POTUS in late February with a definitely maybe. Buttering Maher up and wishing him a Happy B-day, the White House responded with “we’ll keep in mind Bill’s open invitation for a presidential appearance and give it the respectful consideration that Bill and his large audience deserve.”

Renewed last month up to 2018 and its 16th season, Real Time returns to HBO on September 16 – less than two months before the November 8 election. Might want to make that $1 million donation Bill if you really want that HRC sit-down.

As for HRC’s GOP rival Donald Trump, well – Maher’s made no secret of what he thinks of the former Celebrity Apprentice host:
