‘The Eagle Huntress’ Trailer: Smashing The Glass Ceiling On The Mongolian Steppe

Sony Pictures Classics

Director Otto Bell’s The Eagle Huntress made a pretty big splash earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival when it became the first documentary to debut in the Sundance kids’ section. It soon swooped up in a 7 figure deal by Sony Pictures Classics, helped along by Star Wars: The Force Awakens star Daisy Ridley, who signed on to executive produce the film and narrate it. The documentary, telling the story of a 13-year old Mongolian girl striving for high achievement in the rigidly male tradition of eagle hunting, is set for limited theatrical release in New York and Los Angeles on October 28 and in advance of that, the first trailer has dropped. Watch it above now.

Boasting positively awe-inspiring cinematography captured on the expanse of the Mongolian steppe, The Eagle Huntress follows 13-year old Aisholpan as she trains to become the first female in twelve generations of her Kazakh family to become an eagle hunter, rising to the pinnacle of a tradition that has been handed down from father to son for centuries. Executive produced by Ridley and Morgan Spurlock and produced by Stacy Reiss, Sharon Chang and Bell, Simon Niblett served as Director of Photography with Pierre Takal editing.
