Kyanna Simone Simpson Joins ‘Henrietta Lacks’; Rizwan Manji In ‘The Magicians’

Kyanna Simone Simpson has joined the cast of HBO films’ The Immortal Life of Henrietta LacksThe film tells the true story of Henrietta Lacks, an African-American woman whose cells were used to create the first immortal human cell line. Told through the eyes of her daughter, Deborah Lacks (Oprah Winfrey), the film chronicles her search to learn about the mother she never knew and to understand how the unauthorized harvesting of Lacks’ cancerous cells in 1951 led to unprecedented medical breakthroughs, changing countless lives and the face of medicine forever. Simpson will play the young Deborah Lacks. Known for her recurring role on HBO’s miniseries Show Me a Hero, Simpson next will be seen in the upcoming comedy Fist Fight, starring Christina Hendricks and Ice Cube. She’s repped by Abrams Artists Agency and AEM Management.

Rizwan Manji has signed on to the Season 2 cast of Syfy’s The Magicians in a recurring role. Based on the bestselling novels from Lev Grossman, The Magicians centers on Quentin (Jason Ralph), a brilliant grad student chosen to attend Brakebills College for Magical Pedagogy, a secret upstate New York university specializing in magic. Manji will play Tick Pickwick, a character in Fillory who is a royal advisor. Manji’s credits include Outsourced and Schitt’s Creek, and feature The Wolf Of Wall Street. He’s repped by Abrams Artists Agency and Multiethnic Talent.
