‘Rocky Horror’ To World Premiere At Mipcom; Machinima Pacts With Sky, Amazon – Global Briefs

Fox’s two-hour TV movie The Rocky Horror Picture Show has been set for a world premiere screening at Mipcom in October. The Cannes TV conference, which last year hosted the world premiere of the new X-Files and whose sister market Mip-TV screened the Roots reboot for the first time in April, will show the new version on October 18. It then debuts October 20 on Fox. The special features Laverne Cox as Dr Frank-N-Furter; Victoria Justice as Janet, Ryan McCartan as Brad and Adam Lambert as Eddie. Tim Curry, the original Frank-N-Furter, is back as the show’s criminologist narrator. The cast also includes Annaleigh Ashford, Reeve Carney and Staz Nair. The Rocky Horror Picture Show is produced by Fox 21 Television Studios and The Jackal Group. Lou Adler, Gail Berman and Kenny Ortega are exec producers. Ortega also directs and acts as choreographer. The original film was released in 1975 and still runs in theaters today. Mipcom runs October 17-20.

In a first, Liberty Global and All3Media have entered a multi-territory agreement for four major original drama series over the next two years. The programs will be made available on demand for customers of Liberty Global companies across Europe, Latin America and the Carribean including Virgin Media and Ziggo. Bruce Mann, Managing Director of Programming at Liberty Global and David Bouchier, Virgin’s Chief Digital Entertainment Officer, will lead the commissioning process. The dramas will each be produced by All3Media production companies. Liberty Global owns 50% of All3Media, having jointly acquired it with Discovery in 2014. All3Media chief Jane Turton calls the move “a great opportunity with Liberty Global and Virgin Media to develop new dramas that are designed to appeal to a global audience, to be watched on multiple platforms and to become long running returning series.”

Lee Ingleby

ITV has ordered contemporary drama serial Innocent written by Chris Lang and Matt Arlidge. TXTV will produce the four-parter that’s set to star Cold Feet’s Hermione Norris and The A Word’s Lee Ingleby. Ingleby plays a man convicted of his wife’s murder who after seven years in jail sees the verdict overturned on a technicality. He has always protested his innocence, but has been abandoned by pretty much everyone — including his late wife’s sister (Norris) who now has custody of his children — and must begin the long road to rebuilding his life. Innocent will be co-exec produced by Jeremy Gwilt (Maigret, Foyle’s War), Lang (Unforgotten, Undeniable) and Arlidge (Undeniable, Mistresses). Shooting starts this month with Daniel Ryan (Home Fires), Angel Coulby (Merlin), Nigel Lindsay (Victoria), Elliott Cowan (Da Vinci’s Demons) and Adrian Rowlins (Harry Potter) rounding out the cast.
