‘Preacher’ Viewership Rises For Season 1 Finale

So it looks like God has taken a runner and the slate in Annville, Texas has been wiped clean – which is not the case for Preacher the TV series. The Dominic Cooper-led AMC show based on Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s comics wrapped up its first season on Sunday night with some good news amidst all the bad news on-screen.

The Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and Sam Catlin EP series pulled in 1.722 million total viewers with 765,000 among adults 18-49 for its “Call and Response” July 31 episode. Even with its “Finish The Song” show of July 24 in the key demo and bopping up 6% in the 25-54 demo to 686,000, Preacher saw a rise of 10% in total viewers over the week before.

While down 28% from its May 22 pilot debut, which followed the strong S2 midseason finale of Fear The Walking Dead, the S1 Preacher finale was actually the best the series has done in total viewers since its June 2 airing. That “The Possibilities” episode drew 1.75 million viewers.

Perhaps more significantly for the series, which has proven one of the top 10 overall cable dramas of the year, the S1 finale numbers have resulted in a 1.711 million season average in overall audience. Key demo-wise, Preacher has averaged around 803,000 and among the 25-54s, it has around 904,000 – all of which must be leaving AMC pretty happy.

In Live + 3 results, Preacher has been averaging around 3 million viewers per episode over the first nine shows of its 10-episode first season so we’ll see later this week if that stays steady too when AMC drop those numbers.

Renewed for a second season of 13-episodes in late June, Preacher is set to return in summer 2017.
