TBS To Strip New Comedy ‘Search Party’ Thanksgiving Week, Sets ‘People Of Earth’ Premiere – TCA

TBS (and Turner in general) continues to experiment with the launch pattern for its series. Following January’s move to kick off Angie Tribeca‘s run with a 25-hour binge-viewing marathon of the first season, the network has decided to air the entire first season of new comedy Search Party during Thanksgiving week (Nov. 21-25), with two episodes each night from 11 PM-midnight. Additionally, TBS has set Halloween night, Monday, Oct. 31, for the premiere of its alien-themed ensemble comedy People of Earth, starring Wyatt Cenac (The Daily Show).

Search Party is a dark comedy starring Alia Shawkat about a group of four self-absorbed 20-somethings who come together when a former college acquaintance mysteriously disappears. It is a rare serialized mystery comedy series, so TBS brass likely are looking to tap into the way younger viewers consume serialized content. TBS will then encore the first season during the following holidays — weeks of Christmas and New Year’s — while also making all 10 episodes available on demand the night of premiere to encourage binge viewing.

People Of Earth is a comedy about a support group for alien abductees, executive produced by Conan O’Brien and Greg Daniels.
