Rihanna To Play Iconic ‘Psycho’ Role In ‘Bates Motel’ Fifth & Final Season – Comic-Con

Rihanna has been tapped to play Marion Crane in the fifth and final season of A&E’s hit Psycho prequel series Bates Motel. The casting was announced today during the show’s panel at Comic-Con in San Diego. Janet Leigh played ill-fated character in Alfred Hitchcock’s 1960 classic.

“We wanted to thrust the iconic role into a contemporary spotlight and redefine it in a meaningful and exciting new way,” executive producers Carlton Cuse and Kerry Ehrin said in announcing the casting. “We also heard Rihanna was a fan of the show, and we were huge fans of hers, so it was the perfect collision of creativity and fate.”

Other news from the panel: Vera Farmiga will executive produce and return in her Emmy-nominated role as Norma Bates after her epic death near the end of Season 4. Max Thieriot will make his directorial debut, and Nestor Carbonell will direct for a third time. And Freddie Highmore will write his second episode alongside executive producers Kerry Ehrin and Carlton Cuse.
