Sam Brown is moving from New Line Cinema to become the new head of production of the Motion Picture Group at STX Entertainment. The former head of production, Cathy Schulman, is taking on a new corporate role overseeing the launch of a significant new initiative, which the studio is keeping under wraps.
Brown joins the company after serving as SVP Production for New Line. He will report to Adam Fogelson, chairman of the STX Entertainment Motion Picture Group, and Oren Aviv, president and chief content officer for the STX Entertainment Motion Picture Group.
Schulman most recently oversaw the upcoming comedy Bad Moms which is bowing next weekend and stars Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell, Jada Pinkett Smith and Christina Applegate. Schulman, who is the Women in Film president, had been in the STX post since April 2015, joining from Mandalay Entertainment. She is one of the few women currently in an executive position at STX Entertainment.
As she makes the transition into her new role, Brown will be tasked now with overseeing production and development activities on STX’s upcoming slate of films.
While at New Line, Brown worked on such films as Central Intelligence, San Andreas, Horrible Bosses, the Harold & Kumar series as well as upcoming New Line films Fist Fight with Ice Cube and Charlie Day; Going In Style, starring Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine and Alan Arkin; and The House starring Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler among more than 20 projects he had been supervising.
