Emma Roberts-Dave Franco Thriller ‘Nerve’ To Sneak At Comic-Con

Deadline has learned that Lionsgate’s cyber thriller Nerve starring Emma Roberts and Dave Franco will be sneaking at Comic-Con on Thursday at 7 PM.

Nerve is the fourth summer movie from a major distributor this year that’s set to preview at Comic-Con. Paramount has a mega world premiere of Justin Lin’s Star Trek Beyond in Imax on Wednesday night at the Embarcadero Marina Park South. In addition, after showing off Sausage Party at SXSW this spring, Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg are hosting an 8 PM screening and Q&A on Thursday at 8 PM at the UA Horton Plaza 8 Theater. There’s also a pre-party at the Mad House Comedy Club at 6 PM. Even Open Road is showing off its awards contender Snowden with Oliver Stone on Thursday at 5pm.

Sneaking at Comic-Con before fanboy and -girl millennials is always a coin toss. Last year, Universal/Blumhouse drew huge laughs and screams when they screened M. Night Shyamalan’s The Visit twice during the confab. The $5M movie went on to open to $25.4M and make $65.2M at the domestic B.O. Two years ago, Paramount had an early cut of found-footage movie Project Almanac, but it didn’t leave memories with those who saw it. The pic released on January 30 last year, seven months after Comic-Con, and died at the B.O. with $22.3M.

Lionsgate showed off a cool trailer for Nerve at CinemaCon. The pic is trying to get a leg up on the competition by debuting on the Wednesday before Uni’s Jason Bourne owns the weekend with $60M on July 29. Nerve follows a high school senior played by Roberts who becomes victimized by an online truth or dare game, with Franco as a newfound beau in tow.
