‘Rogue One’ Hits Hyperdrive On Social Media Post-Star Wars Celebration


Unveiling young Han Solo to the world along with a touching docu-trailer and the debut of a cool one-sheet sent the Disney/Lucasfilm prequel Rogue One: A Star Wars Story up comScore’s PreAct social media chart with 160K-plus conversations for the week of July 11-17.

Even though the movie is six months away from hitting theaters, it soon will top 1 million conversations on Pre-Act, second to Warner Bros’ Suicide Squad, which is three weeks away from its August 5 release with 1.6M conversations. Many believe that the David Ayer movie will marking an opening record for the month of August and star Will Smith with $125M-plus.

Other releases that are far off on the calendar but popped on social chatter:

— Universal’s Jason Bourne, which largely has been absent from the comScore top 10 chart in recent weeks, began registering with close to 20K conversations after nabbing some headlines last week. That included Lena Dunham protesting the use of guns in Bourne one-sheets, Matt Damon declaring he’d rather play Bourne than “misogynistic” James Bond, as well as the Oscar-winner teasing that there’s a fifth Jason Bourne movie on deck.

–Lionsgate’s December musical La La Land hit close to 17,500 conversations after dropping a teaser trailer on July 13.

–The distributor of Power Rangers also moved its total social chatter count to 90K after publishing an official movie image and character posters on July 14.

–Warner Bros.’ Wonder Woman ranks 10th with just under 12K conversations after exclusive photos of Gal Gadot as the femme superhero were released in Entertainment Weekly on July 15.  It was also announced on July 11 that Wonder Woman will be a part of the the studio’s presentation at Comic-Con.
