Amy Schumer & Aziz Ansari Lead Actors’ List Of Multiple Emmy Nominees

Of the many actors who scored Emmy nominations this morning, a half-dozen today can boast of landing more than one — though not all were for their thespian skills. Amy Schmuer stands alone atop the heap with four noms, followed by Aziz Ansari and Laurie Metcalf with three and Allison Janney, Sarah Paulson and Keegan-Michael Key with two each.

Schumer picked up her second consecutive Emmy nom for Lead Actress in a comedy for Inside Amy Schumer and added mentions for Variety Sketch Series, her stand-up special Amy Schumer Live at the Apollo and Saturday Night Live. Ansari’s noms were for starring in, directing and writing his freshman Netflix comedy Master of None.

Metcalf turned a triple play for her lead role in HBO’s Getting On and guest roles on CBS’ The Big Bang Theory and Horace and Pete.

Janney repeated last year’s double for her supporting role in CBS’ Mom — which she won — and guest spot on Showtime’s Masters of Sex. Paulson pulled double duty for her lead role as Marcia Clark in FX’s limited series The People v O.J. Simpson and for supporting turn in the cable net’s American Horror Story: Hotel. Key is nommed as part of the writing team of Comedy Central’s now-departed Key & Peele and his voice role in Crackle’s SuperMansion.

Today’s noms give Schumer nine overall, including one win, and represent the first for Ansari. Janney now has 12 noms and seven wins, and Paulson has 10 with three statuettes.

Key and Paulson are looking for their first hardware from the TV Academy, now having racked up nine and six noms, respectively.

Editor’s note: Unlike Best Picture for the Oscars, the TV Academy does not nominate individual producers for its series categories. For example, Schumer and Ansari don’t receive credit for an Emmy nom even though they are producers on their nominated comedy series.
