‘Loving’ Trailer: Joel Edgerton & Ruth Negga Change History In Focus’ Interracial Marriage Drama

Focus Features

Focus Features has dropped the official trailer for Loving, writer/director Jeff Nichols’ powerful real-life story of interracial couple Richard and Mildred Loving, portrayed by Joel Edgerton and Ruth Negga.

Set in 1960s Virginia, the Lovings were married in Washington, DC and later arrested for violating Virginia’s anti-miscegenation law. They then spent the next nine years fighting for the right to live as a family in their hometown. Their civil rights case, Loving v. Virginia, went all the way to the Supreme Court, which in 1967 reaffirmed the very foundation of the right to marry, altering the course of history.

Focus Features bought the film in Berlin based on a script and a few scenes, and it went on to premiere in competition to a rapturous audience at the Cannes Film Festival.

Loving will open in select theaters on November 4 and expand nationwide on November 11.
