Jamie Kennedy Joins ‘Girl From Compton’; ‘Ray Donovan’ Books Jake Hoffman

Jamie Kennedy (Scream, Malibu’s Most Wanted) has joined the cast of Lifetime’s upcoming R&B biopic Girl From Compton (working title) about the life of R&B artist Michel’le. The film details the life of the singer, who was discovered at a young age by N.W.A’s Eazy-E and became a platinum artist on Ruthless Records. Dr. Dre’s girlfriend for more than a decade and later married to Suge Knight, Michel’le was there for N.W.A’s wild ride, with all of its dramatic ups and downs. Kennedy will play music manager Jerry Heller who helped propel N.W.A to fame. He joins Ryhon Nicole Brown who will play Michel’le, and R. Marcos Taylor as Suge Knight. The film is in principal photography in Cincinnati and is being produced by Sony Pictures Television and ThinkFactory Media for Lifetime. Leslie Greif is executive producing. Kennedy is known for his roles in Scream, The Jamie Kennedy Experiment, and most recently was a series regular on NBC’s Heartbeat. He is repped by aTa Management and ESA.

Jake Hoffman (The Wolf of Wall Street, Click) has been cast opposite Jon Voight in an episode of Showtime drama series Ray Donovan. He’ll play Jack Raleigh, an Instagram star and playboy who is a big-time gambler in Las Vegas. The series, now two episodes in to its fourth season, follows Liev Schreiber as L.A.’s best professional fixer as he a seeks second chance at redemption with some serious challenges ahead. The role opposite Voight marks a Midnight Cowboy full circle-sort-of moment for Hoffman, whose father Dustin Hoffman starred with Voight in the iconic 1969 film.
