‘Greatest Hits’ Ratings Debut Solid, ‘Big Brother’ Steady As ‘Spartan’ Soars


It didn’t hit No. 1, but the Arsenio Hall- and Kelsea Ballerini-hosted Greatest Hits (1.1/5) had a solid start for ABC last night and kept the net even overall with last week. With 4.8 million watching, the show featuring Pitbull and REO Speedwagon, gave ABC its best summer 9 PM slot viewership result since August 2014.

Compared to recent unscripted ABC summer debuts, GH was up 57% from the opener of The Quest on the Thursday of July 21, 2014, but down 54% among adults 18-49 fr0m the revived debut of Celebrity Family Feud on June 21 last year, a Sunday. The 8 PM BattleBots (0.9/4) was down a tenth from its two-hour season premiere on June 23.

Like last week, CBS was the winner of the night with a 1.2/5 rating (same as on June 23) and 5.11 million viewers. A Big Bang Theory repeat topped the night in viewers with 7.00 million tuning in and, as the highest-rated show of the night, an original Big Brother (1.8/7) was up a tenth from its Season 18 Thursday premiere last week.

Fox’s only original of the pre-July 4 weekend was Home Free (0.5/2) and the CW had Beauty and the Beast (0.2/1) – both of which were even with last week.

NBC jumped in with more Olympic Trials: Swimming (1.2/5) and then bolted to Spartan: Ultimate Team Challenge (1.0/4) before finishing with Aquarius (0.4/2). The water competition was even with Tuesday night’s coverage but the reality competition jumped up 25% over last week among the 18-49s. The David Duchovny-led 1960s series was even with last week’s tepid results.
