CBS’ Code Black has added three new major recurring players to the cast — Nafessa Williams (Twin Peaks), Noah Gray-Cabey (Heroes: Reborn) and Emily Tyra (Flesh and Bone) — with an eye toward becoming regulars. They will play new residents at the ER of Angels Memorial Hospital.

The castings are part of the plan for Season 2 mapped out by series creator/exec producer Michael Seitzman designed to make the series resemble real life where residents and physicians come to an ER for a stint and leave. Also as part of the plan, two Season 1 series regulars, Bonnie Somerville and Raza Jaffrey, departed while two recurring players, Jillian Murray and Boris Kodjoe, were promoted to regular. Additionally, a male co-lead for star Marcia Gay Harden is being cast.

“We conducted a wide search for actors to play our newest young residents and these three burst to the top,” Seitzman said. “All three are tremendous, wildly compelling actors.”

Williams will play Charlotte Piel, a former child star of an iconic movie franchise who left her acting career to become a doctor instead, now returning to Los Angeles, her adoptive home, to be a resident at Angels Memorial.

Gray-Cabey will play Elliot Han, a sweet and affable new doctor at Angels, who excelled in school but is completely overwhelmed by the catastrophes that regularly burst through the doors of the busiest ER in the country.

Tyra will play Dr. Noa Kean: A street-smart, surfer who sailed to the top of her class at a California university, despite the tough neighborhood she grew up in. Noa is confident and defiant, never pretends to be something she isn’t, and has zero patience for the foolish or the over privileged.

Code Black — from ABC Studios and CBS TV Studios — will boast one of the biggest regular casts on television for a sophomore show. It also features a very big guest cast, another way Seitzman and his team are trying to have the series reflect the real-life situation at a busy ER. (The 800 extras per episode support the title of the show, which indicates ER that is overwhelmed by patients.)

Code Black, which revolved around residents and their colleagues at the fictional Angels Memorial Hospital, was a consistent ratings performer in Season 1, never falling under 1.1 ratings among adults 18-49 in Live+same day. Harden won the actress in a drama series award at the Monte Carlo TV Festival.

Season 2 of Code Black premieres September 28.

Gray-Cabey is repped by LINK.  Williams is repped by GVA, Luber Roklin and Gang Tyre. Tyra is repped by Abrams Artists and Management 360.
