‘Bleed For This’ Trailer: Miles Teller As Comeback-Kid Boxer Vinny Pazienza & Aaron Eckhart As Trainer

Open Road Films

“With this severe of an injury, one bump, one fall, any kind of movement, and your spinal cord could sever.” Vinny Pazienza was on top of the boxing world after winning the junior middleweight title in 1991. A month later, a car wreck left him with a broken neck, and doctors told the Pazmanian Devil he might never walk again. A little more than a year later, he was back in the ring, and he won his comeback fight. Helloooo, Hollywood.

Here is the first trailer for Bleed For This, which sees Whiplash star Miles Teller as the kid from Rhode Island who punched adversity in the mouth. It tells the story of a fighter — in and out of the ring — who wouldn’t be denied, even if it meant risking everything. “I’m getting pretty sick of people talking to me like I’m dead,” he says. So he begins to train, despite the fact that his neck is secured by a device designed to keep it in place. Does he fight again? You bet. And you shouldn’t bet against him. A quarter-century later, Pazienza’s return to boxing remains one of sports’ most inspiring and impressive comebacks. Aaron Eckhart stars as his trainer Kevin Rooney, Katey Sagal and Ciaran Hands are Paz’s parents, and Ted Levine is promoter Lou Duva. Ben Younger directed Bleed for This, which he scripted from a story he wrote with Pippa Bianco and Angelo Pizzo. Open Road bows the pic November 4 in limited release, followed by a wide rollout during Thanksgiving week. Check out the trailer above.
