‘Trolls’ Trailer: Anna Kendrick & Justin Timberlake Seek Their Happy Place

DreamWorks Animation and 20th Century Fox have released the first official trailer for this fall’s Trolls. Starring Anna Kendrick as the eternally peppy Poppy, and Justin Timberlake as her polar opposite, Branch, the film hails from the creators of Shrek. Extended footage recently shown in Barcelona had folks bouncing in their seats — and, as Jeffrey Katzenberg noted, featured what may be the very first “poop cupcakes” seen on screen. Check out the clip above, it’s way less gross than it sounds.

Since agreeing to sell DWA to Comcast, Katzenberg has been on a farewell tour with the film. He earlier stopped at the Cannes Film Festival to unveil footage and introduce Kendrick and Timberlake who sang a duet from the movie in the Palais.

In the story, happy scrapbooker Poppy leads the colorful and sing-songy trolls. By contrast, the drab and brooding Branch keeps to himself. When the feared Bergins wreak havoc on the community, the unlikely pair must team up on an adventure that takes them far beyond the only world they’ve ever known.

Also lending voice and song are Gwen Stefani, Zooey Deschanel, James Corden, Russell Brand, Icona Pop, Ron Funches and Kunal Nayaar.

Directors are Shrek Forever After‘s Mike Mitchell and Walt Dohrn. Producer is SFA‘s Gina Shay. The North American release is set for November 4. International rollout begins in mid-October.
