He’s played Tony Blair, David Frost and Dr, William Masters and now Golden Globe nominee Michael Sheen is making his feature directorial debut with Green River Killer. Adapting his 2015 Black List script, the Masters of Sex star also will star in the film as serial killer Gary Ridgway, who was convicted of 49 murders in the Seattle area in the 1980s and 1990s. QC Entertainment said today that it will produce and finance the project.

The film tells the story of police detective Tom Jensen, who spent 20 years looking for the notorious Green River Killer, and Ridgway (left), the man he eventually caught. Rideway was arrested in 2001 thanks to DNA evidence and is serving life in prison with no chance of parole. Sheen’s script is based on Dark Horse Entertainment’s graphic novel Green River Killer: A True Detective Story by Jensen’s son Jeff Jensen and artist Jonathan Case.

“This is a dark story but one that ultimately finds hope and meaning in that darkness,” Sheen said Friday. “The story of Tom and Gary, and how they are bound together in time, pulled me in from the beginning and wouldn’t let go. I hope that by now bringing it to life on screen, it can make audiences feel the same way.”

Green River Killer will be produced by Dark Horse Entertainment’s Mike Richardson and Keith Goldberg, Sheen and QC Entertainment’s Sean McKittrick and Ray Mansfield. QC’s Edward Hamm Jr. and Shaun Redick will serve as EPs.  Domestic sales will be repped by ICM Partners and QC Entertainment, the recently formed partnership among McKittrick, Hamm, Mansfield and Redick.

“Michael has written an elegant script which brings his sophisticated vision to subverting the typical serial-killer movie,” McKittrick and Mansfield said. “Jensen and Ridgway are terrific roles for both an actor of Michael’s caliber and the actor cast opposite him.”

Sheen is repped by ICM Partners, Sanders Armstrong Caserta Management and Schreck Rose.
