Will Chase Joins Broadway’s ‘Something Rotten!’ As Shakespeare

Will Chase

Will Chase is leaving Nashville and heading to Broadway. He’ll take over the starring role of William Shakespeare from Tony winner Christan Borle, who’s leaving the hit musical on July 16.

Chase originally played the Shakespeare role in one of the first readings of the musical, prior to his casting as a series regular in Nashville, according to Playbill. Chase begins performances July 18 alongside previously announced new cast members Catherine Brunell (Portia), Josh Grisetti (Nigel Bottom) and Leslie Kritzer (Bea).

Deadline reported yesterday that Chase and Aubrey Peeples will not be staying with Nashville as it moves from ABC to CMT for Season 5. Chase might return to the show as a guest star, depending on availability.

Directed by Tony-winning Aladdin and The Book of Mormon director-choreographer Casey Nicholaw, Something Rotten! snagged 10 2015 Tony Award nominations, including Best Score and Best Musical. Wayne Kirkpatrick and Karey Kirkpatrick wrote the songs, and Karey Kirkpatrick and John O’Farrell co-wrote the book.
