Dave Andron Inks Overall Deal With FX Prods, Set As ‘Snowfall’ Showrunner

Encouraging news for FX’s 1980s cocaine-epidemic drama pilot Snowfall — the project has secured a series showrunner. Dave Andron has signed a two-year overall deal with FX Productions, the studio behind the drama. Under the pact, he will serve as executive producer and showrunner on John Singleton and Eric Amadio’s Snowfall, should it move forward to series. Additionally, Andron will develop new projects for FX Networks.

Former Justified co-executive producer Andron boarded Snowfall in April as the original pilot — co-created, written and executive produced by the Boyz N The Hood director Singleton and Amadio and directed by Singleton — headed for a revamp. Andron, who joined as executive producer/showrunner, spearheaded the rewrite, with Singleton and Amadio involved in the process. The project will undergo casting changes and reshoots directed by young Belgian filmmakers El Arbi and Fallah (Black) who just landed a high-profile feature gig – directing the next installment in the Beverly Hills Cop franchise.

In its original incarnation, Snowfall focused on a trio of main characters – ambitious dealer Franklin Saint (Damson Idris), Mexican wrestler-turned-gangster Gustavo Zapata (Sergio Peris-Mencheta) and prodigal son Logan Miller (Billy Magnussen). I hear that of the three actors, only Idris is staying on.

The Snowfall situation is not unusual at FX where some of the biggest drama series have undergone pilot rewrites, reshoots and sometime recastings, including Sons of Anarchy, Justified and Rescue Me.

Andron, Singleton and Amadio executive produce alongside Groundswell Productions’ Michael London and Trevor Engelson. Evan Silverberg is a producer.

FX had had high hopes for Snowfall from the get-go, submitting an application for California tax incentives should the project go to series almost a year ago. The application was approved in December.

Andron is repped by CAA, Madhouse Entertainment, and attorney Bruce Gellman.
