‘Younger’ Renewed Early For Season 4 By TV Land, Gets Season 3 Premiere Date

TV Land is giving another big vote of confidence to Younger, the Darren Star series that helped establish the network’s new single-camera comedy brand. Younger has been renewed for a 12-episode fourth season ahead of the show’s third season premiere, which has been set for September 28. It will be followed by the Season 2 debut of TV Land comedy Impastor, which has been pushed from its originally announced June 26 premiere date.

This marks the earliest renewal for the well received Younger, from Sex and the City creator Star. Season 2 was picked up four episodes into the single-camera comedy’s freshman run, while Season 3 was ordered a week before its second-season debut in January. The news comes just as Younger is starting production on Season 3. The crew will take a break after wrapping that season before returning to film Season 4.

Younger stars Sutton Foster, Hilary Duff, Debi Mazar, Miriam Shor, Nico Tortorella, Peter Hermann and Molly Bernard. The second season of the show posted double-digit gains among all key demos vs. Season 1 (+67% with Adults 25-54; +66% among Women 25-54; +63% with Adults 18-49; +60% among Women 18-49). Social media and VOD numbers climbed as well.

“The show is a force in and of itself, so it’s a no-brainer to renew it again,” said TV Land EVP Keith Cox. “Critics and fans love it, and I know Darren and the entire cast and crew behind ‘Younger’ will continue to deliver at the top of their game.”

Younger follows Liza (Foster), a 40-year old woman who pretends to be 26 in order to get a job in the highly competitive world of publishing – and succeeds. Now working under the prickly Diana (Shor), Liza has to figure out how to balance her real life with best friend Maggie (Mazar), and her “pretend” life with her new crew – friend/coworker Kelsey (Duff) and fashion publicist Lauren (Bernard). At the end of season two, Liza’s secret took a tragic turn when Kelsey’s fiancé Thad (Dan Amboyer) was killed in an accident right after he discovered her lie, and Liza’s love life is in disarray as she tries to choose between on-again/off-again boyfriend Josh (Nico Tortorella) and her boss Charles (Peter Hermann), with whom she has an undeniable connection.

Younger is created, executive produced and written by Star, with Tony Hernandez of JAX Media executive producing for TV Land. Dottie Zicklin and Eric Zicklin also serve as executive producers and writers on the series.
