‘Person Of Interest’ Bosses Tease Season 5 Finale: “It’s More Emotional Than We Anticipated”- ATX Television Festival

Fans are gearing up for the end of CBS’ cult-favorite Person Of Interest after five seasons. Tonight at the ATX Televison Festival Executive Producer Greg Plageman was on hand to introduce the penultimate episode, titled “.exe” that also marked his directorial debut, on which he got some advice from another of the show’s Executive Producers, JJ Abrams. “He said, ‘Make sure you do one thing. In every scene just design one shot that you won’t know if you can pull it off or not because you can always resort back to conventional coverage, but try to go for it.’”

Plageman was joined onstage by fellow EP/Creator Jonathan Nolan to chat about the final days of the series. Although nothing was revealed about the finale besides there being a fitbit involved, Nolan admitted that it was “more of an emotional finale” than anticipated. He teased that the last episode would “revisit relationships that we never got a chance to get to before,” which per the show’s history “doesn’t work out so well.”

“It didn’t quite end exactly as we anticipated,” Nolan said, but promised that “the body count is the same.”

On the ending of season 5, Nolan mentioned that while they “had a good idea that this was probably it,” the creators “would have loved to have done more season.” However, being able to give it a proper send-off “is a great position to be in.”

Despite a shortened season, Nolan said that although he felt that they had a “lot to say about these characters,” the brevity didn’t take away from the any essential elements to the storyline. Plageman also didn’t rule out the possibility of a reboot. “Regardless of the characters, it’s something I can see another incarnation of someday” he said, but warned “I think by the time the bloodbath of the finale is over you might have different thoughts.”

The finale airs June 21 on CBS.
