Broad Green To Unveil Amazon’s Kate Winslet Drama ‘The Dressmaker’ This Fall

Broad Green Pictures will open Amazon’s The Dressmaker in limited theaters on September 23. The film from Australian director Jocelyn Moorhouse marks her first time behind the camera since 1997’s A Thousand Acres.

Based on the Rosalie Ham novel, Dressmaker follows a glamorous woman (Oscar winner Kate Winslet) who returns to her hometown in rural Australia with her sewing machine in tow. While there, she cares for her sick mother and transforms the town ladies’ sense of fashion, while exacting her revenge on the community that exiled her when she was younger. The pic also stars Liam Hemsworth and Judy Davis.

The Australian film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and has been in release overseas since last year with Universal taking some offshore markets. To date, The Dressmaker has minted $21.4M, with 67% of that coming from Australia. A throwback to Winslet’s quirky fare such as Holy Smoke and Hideous Kinky, the pic collected 13 AACTA Awards nominations and won several, including a best actress trophy for Winslet. Amazon snapped up The Dressmaker‘s domestic rights during the Cannes Film Festival.
