FX Orders Cristin Milioti & Nina Pedrad Comedy Pilot Produced By ‘Sunny’ Trio

FX continues a push in comedies with female creators/performers with a third such pilot in the last year or so. The network has ordered a half-hour pilot written by and starring Cristin Milioti and Nina Pedrad.

It follows Maxine (Milioti), her best friends Natalie (Pedrad) and Amy, and stepbrother Landis as they navigate the abject shit-storm that is adulthood. Milioti and Pedrad will executive produce along with RCG Productions’ Rob McElhenney, Charlie Day and Glenn Howerton, who are behind FX’s long-running comedy hit It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and 3 Arts’ Michael Rotenberg and Nick Frenkel. Pedrad will serve as showrunner.

Milioti’s Maxine is an entitled actress-turned-process-server who takes lemons and makes a fire out of lemons, burning herself and others. Max’s dysfunctional, tight-knit clan serves as her surrogate family and always lets her sing the Aaron Burr parts of Hamilton.

Pedrad’s Natalie is sharp witted and scientifically inclined. She sells weed and prescription drugs, but blanches at the term “drug dealer.” She wants to be the Sheryl Sandberg of weed.

“We are so excited to be working with a network as fearless as FX and are honored to potentially join the fives of shows about women on television today,” said Milioti and Pedrad.

FX also has Pamela Adlon’s comedy Better Things, which was picked up to series, and a pilot starring Jenny Slate and Ari Graynor, created by Gillian Robespierre and Elisabeth Holm.

Milioti has a relationship at FX where she recently co-starred on the second season of Fargo. She has also appeared on How I Met Your Mother, The Wolf of Wall Street, 30 Rock, The Mindy Project, A to Z, and The Sopranos. Milioti was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical in 2012 for her work in the Broadway musical Once. She is repped by The Gersh Agency and Untitled Entertainment.

Pedrad, whose older sister, SNL alumna Nasim Pedrad, has a comedy pilot at FX sibling Fox, worked as a writer/supervising producer on Fox’s New Girl. She also wrote for, and appeared in, 30 Rock. Pedrad is represented by UTA and 3 Arts.
