‘American Ninja Warrior’ & MasterChef’ Ratings Return Steady With 2015

Things are going to seriously heat up on the Big 4 tonight with the kick-off of the NBA Finals on ABC as the Golden State Warriors and the Cleveland Cavaliers go at it for the second year in a row. On Wednesday, however, we saw some summer returns and one season finale on what was a fairly low impact but steady night – except if you were The Night Shift (1.1/4).

Moving to a new night in the 10 PM slot, the NBC medical drama was down 27% among adults 18-49 from its February 23, 2015 Season 2 debut. That season opener had The Voice as a lead-in during February sweeps on a Monday.

This year saw American Ninja Warrior (1.8/7) as the Night Shift lead-in as the obstacle course competition series started its eighth season. The 8–10 PM show was dead even with its May 25, 2015 Season 7 opener in the key demo, but grew 7% in total viewers to 6.27 million – its most watched debut ever. Overall, NBC took both the most-watched and highest-rated spots of the night with a 1.5/6 rating and 5.81 million viewers.

Over on Fox, Gordon Ramsay was back with MasterChef (1.1/5) Season 7, which was down a tenth from the May 20, 2015 debut of Season 7. Lead-out Wayward Pines (0.9/2) was even with its Season 2 opener on May 25.

The CW has its all ratings wet iHeartRadio Summer Pool Party (0.2/1) and CBS was all encores on Wednesday. ABC’s only original was the Season 2 finale of 500 Questions (0.8/3) from 8–10 PM. The end of the 5-night run of the quiz show matched its May 31 rating to tie a season demo high. However, compared to its Thursday May 28, 2015 Season 1 ender, 500 Questions declined 27% in the demo. It’s worth noting that the S1 ender did not face anywhere near the non-scripted competition of last night.
