NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment Names Val Boreland EVP Content Strategy

NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment’s president of Entertainment Networks Chris McCumber has filled the remaining vacancy in his top executive team at the recently consolidated division, naming former Revolt and Comedy Central executive Val Boreland as EVP Content Strategy. In the newly created role, Boreland will oversee content scheduling and acquisitions for USA Network, Syfy, Chiller and Cloo, overseeing strategies for scheduling and deploying content across linear, digital and emerging platforms.

McCumber last week unveiled the launch of two new departments: Content Strategy, which will be headed by Boreland, and Val BorelandOriginal Co-Productions, which is being led by Chris Regina. The two join fellow McCumber direct reports at the new group comprised of USA, Syfy, Chiller and Cloo: Alexandra Shapiro, EVP Marketing and Digital; Rob Spodek, CFO; Katherine Nelson, SVP Communications; and David Giles, SVP Research.

“We are currently in the midst of a dynamic time in our industry, with viewer habits continuing to evolve,” said McCumber. “As we look at each distinct property and how to launch it, we need to be strategic and tailored about optimizing our content, and Val is uniquely and extensively qualified to successfully launch our networks’ programming across all available platforms.”

Boreland was previously EVP, Head of Programming & Production at Revolt, the music television network she launched with Sean “Diddy” Combs in 2013. In this role she had oversight of all programming content and strategy, managing production, development, talent, news, music, social media, scheduling, promotion and research. Prior to that, she was SVP Programming at Comedy Central. She began her career at Lifetime Television, leaving the network in 2005 as VP Scheduling, Planning and Acquisitions.
