‘The Voice’ & ‘Dancing With The Stars’ Finale Ratings Fall From 2015, NBA Playoffs Score With Warriors’ Loss

The season finales of The Voice (2.1/7) and Dancing With The Stars (1.6/5) saw winners, special guests and showstoppers galore last night while the end of the latest run of The Flash (1.2/5) hit the reset button and left a lot of potential crossover crumbs for down the DC Universe road.

We’ll get to those Big 4 and CW finales and more in a sec but on a competitive night another set of winners were TNT and the Oklahoma City Thunder. The latter beat the current champs the Golden State Warriors 118-94 to solidly take the lead in the NBA Playoffs Western Conference Finals. As for TNT, they got a 6.8 household rating off last night’s game – a rise of 39% over what they scored for Game 4 of the same series in 2014. Last night’s Thunders v. Warriors b-ball battle peaked with a 7.8 HH rating from 11-11:15 PM. The heavily anticipated Game 5 in the 2016 series is set for tomorrow night.

Like the Warriors right now, both the 9 – 11 PM The Voice and DWTS were down hard from last year’s comparative finales to hit lows. The NBC series took a 28% hit in the demo and a 10% viewership decline (10.4 million) from its Season 8 ender on May 19, 2015. The dancing with the stars finale 2016ABC competition show lost its footing to the tune of 30% among adults 18-49 from its Season 20 ender of also on May 19 last year. While ever so slightly closing the overall gap with The Voice year-over-year, DWTS also saw a 24% fall in total audience from its spring 2015 finale to 10.3 million last night. Compared to last week’s 1-hour offering, The Voice was up 17% in the key demo while DWTS was down a tenth from its last regular show of May 16 and fell 16% from Monday’s finals episode.

Overall, to continue the winning motif, NBC won the night with a 1.9/7 rating and 9.42 million viewers.

the flash finale 2016For that other speedy finale of Tuesday night, The Flash was down a tenth from last week and stumbled 20% among the 18-49s from its freshman finale of last May, the same night as The Voice and DWTS wrapped things up too. Now cancelled lead-out Containment (0.5/2) was even with its May 17 show.

As for the rest of the night, ABC also had season enders for Fresh Off The Boat (1.2/5) and The Real O’Neals (1.0/4) that saw the former, with a guest appearance from Ken Jeong, up 9% form its May 17 show but down 20% from its freshman finale of last year. The current freshman O’Neals was up a tenth from last week.

CBS had no finales but a The Price Is Right Primetime Special (1.1/4) that did OK and a Person Of Interest (0.9/3) that did not, with an 18% fall from last week. Fox was also finaleless on Tuesday but they did see the Season 3 debut of Hotel Hell (0.8/3), which went into the ratings fires itself a bit with a 47% burn from its last opener on July 21 last year, a Monday. Lead-out Coupled (0.5/2) was even with its lackluster premiere of last week.
