Spike TV Eyes First Game Show Series

Spike TV

Spike is fast-tracking a new hourlong original game show where parents and their adult children compete to win a large cash prize while learning cringe-worthy truths about their next of kin. I hear the project, from A. Smith & Co. Productions (Hell’s Kitchen, American Ninja Warrior), is looking good for a series order. It would be Spike’s first game show.

In each episode, three teams of two (comprised of one parent and one adult child per team) will be asked questions by the host.

The contestants will have to match the answers to their family members, having to identify uncomfortable, often outrageous, previously unknown truths about their loved ones. The type of skeleton-in-the-closet stories the duos will have to tackle include explaining to your kid the details of the night they were conceived, or revealing to your parent that you secretly married the boyfriend they’ve never approved of. The parent/kid duo that answers the most questions correctly will win a major cash prize (and hopefully not become estranged after the experience).

Spike is known for docu-reality and competition reality series like Bar Rescue and Ink Master. Its recent breakout, the celebrity-driven Lip Sync Battle, includes some game elements.
