All3Media Takes Stake In Caravan; Cannes Marché Hits Record – Briefs


All3Media has come aboard to back UK-based factual TV and film producer Caravan, taking an undisclosed stake in the company. Founded by Dinah Lord and Juliet Singer in 2015, Caravan’s recent credits include Panorama – Britain’s Mental Health Crisis and A Royal Wedding: Indian Style. The company is currently in production with shows for Sky Arts, BBC Three and NHK. Lord previously executive produced at Brook Lapping, Swan Films, Silver River and Pulse Films for the UK and international broadcasters. Singer has developed, produced and directed factual programming for the BBC and several indies including Wall to Wall, Silver River and The Garden, both in the UK and U.S. Keith Havilland, CEO of Haviland Digital and an independent film producer, is also backing the company and will be joining the board. Caravan joins All3Media’s stable of 21 production and distribution companies from across the UK, Europe, New Zealand and the U.S.

cannes market logoThe Cannes Marché du Film reported record registrations of 11,900 participants this year. That marks a 3% increase on last year’s market badge holders and sets a new milestone for the world’s largest film industry gathering. Attendees included 32% more from China than in 2015 and Brazilian attendance up 39%. There were nearly 4,000 producers at the market and a total of 3,450 films being sold. The market this year expanded its offerings including the producers confab NEXT and the Doc Corner program. (However, away from the actual market halls, many felt this year’s Cannes ran at a slower pace with fewer crowds in hotel lobbies and racing down the Croisette.) The Marché also began a partnership with the Fantasia International Film Festival and the Frontières Co-Production Market with which it is teaming on a three-city genre initiative, which will include a two-day genre event in Cannes next year.
