Netflix’s ‘Gilmore Girls’ Revival Gets Official Title

Lauren Graham made a surprise appearance today on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, where she announced that Netflix’s upcoming Gilmore Girls revival has an official name: Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life.

That title reflects the show’s premise: taking the form of a miniseries of four 90-minute episodes, each new episode takes place during a different season in one calendar year.

Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life will bring together almost all of the original cast. Lauren Graham, Alexis Bledel, Melissa McCarthy, Scott Patterson, Kelly Bishop, Keiko Agena, Sean Gunn, Milo Ventimiglia, Matt Czuchry, Liza Weil, Jared Padalecki and Yanic Truesdale are all confirmed to return for the series, which began filming in February and will continue shooting through summer. McCarthy, by the way, also announced her return to the show on Ellen.

The journey from beloved, ended series to hotly anticipated revival has been a fast one. In June, series creator Amy Sherman-Palladino said during a cast reunion at ATX 2015 in Austin that “there’s nothing in the works at the moment.” Even so, by October Netflix had picked up the rights and by January it confirmed the show was moving forward. Sherman-Palladino is executive producing the revival alongside Daniel Palladino, with both writing and directing.Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life is produced by Dorothy Parker Drank Here Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television.
