‘Shooter’: USA Drama Series Starring Ryan Phillippe Gets Premiere Date; First-Look Trailer

USA Network

USA Network has slotted Tuesday, July 19 for the premiere of drama series Shooter, based on Stephen Hunter’s novel Point of Impact and the 2007 Paramount film starring Mark Wahlberg.

We’re also getting a first look at the series that stars Ryan Phillippe as Bob Lee Swagger — the role played by Wahlberg in the movie — an expert marksman living in exile who is coaxed back into action after learning of a plot to kill the president. The series hails from Paramount TV and Universal Cable Prods.

Shooter follows the courageous journey of Swagger, a highly-decorated ex-marine sniper who is coaxed back into action after he learns about a plot to kill the President. When Swagger’s former commanding officer Isaac Johnson (Omar Epps) solicits his expertise in a clandestine operation, Swagger re-emerges from exile only to discover that he is inextricably involved in a disastrous operation with ties to his past.

Wahlberg and Hlavin executive produce with Stephen Levinson and Lorenzo di Bonaventura. Phillippe serves as producer. John Hlavin wrote the pilot and executive executives. Simon Cellan Jones directed the pilot.
