Macro Launching America Ferrera-Backed Latino Dramedy As Its First Web Series

Macro, the multiplatform media company founded by former WME partner Charles D. King, has set up its first digital series: the dramatic comedy Gente-Fied, which will feature an all-Latino cast and counts America Ferrera among its executive producers. Macro is financing seven episodes of the bilingual web series, which follows seven characters as they deal with the effects of change in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Boyle Heights. Marvin Lemus created and directed the series and co-wrote it with Linda Yvette Chavez. No release date has been set but check out the trailer above.
Ferrera will also appear in the series with the main cast: Alicia Sixtos (East Los High), Art Bonilla, Edsson Morales, Rafael Sigler, Sal Velez Jr., Victoria Ortiz and Yareli Arizmendi. She exec produces with Lemus, King and Macro VP Aaliyah Williams.
Los Angeles-based Macro is revving up since closing its first round of funding in September. The company, which is aiming to create premium content for the African American, Latino and multicultural market, recently unveiled it is co-producing and financing a Harriet Tubman biopic, and it is doing the same on Denzel Washington’s August Wilson adaptation Fences at Paramount. It also is developing a TV drama series Minors with Ryan Coogler, Destin Daniel Cretton and poet/playwright Chinaka Hodge, and a hacker feature film to be written and directed by Rick Famuyiwa.
Ferrera is repped by CAA and Peikoff Mahan. Lemus is repped by Mosaic and attorney Brian Agboh.
